Delete your Split Sage account

Last updated 2026-07-30

You can delete your Split Sage account and the personal data attached to it at any time. This page is public: you do not need to sign in to read it, and it works whether you still have the app installed or removed it months ago.

Split Sage never holds, moves, or processes money, so there is no balance to withdraw and nothing to close down before you delete. What you are deleting is a record of who owed what.

Two ways to delete your account

1. In the app, if you still have it installed

  1. Open Split Sage and sign in.
  2. Go to Settings, then Account, then Delete account.
  3. Read the confirmation carefully. To arm the button you have to type the word DELETE, which is there so nobody does this by mistake.

The deletion runs immediately. You are signed out on every device, and nothing further is required from you.

2. By email, with no app and no sign-in

Send us a message from the email address on your account, the one you sign in with, whether that is your Google address or the email you registered with a password, so we can match the request to the right account.

Email a deletion request

We respond within 30 days, and usually much sooner. If we cannot tell that the request comes from the account holder, we will ask one clarifying question before deleting anything, because deleting the wrong account is not reversible.

What deleting removes

Deleting your account permanently removes, from our servers:

Uninstalling the app removes the copy held on your phone (cached groups, preferences and your sign-in token). Uninstalling on its own does not delete the account on our side, which is what this page is for.

What is kept, and why

Expenses and settlements in groups you shared with other people are anonymized rather than deleted. Those rows decide what the remaining members owe each other. Deleting them outright would silently change other people's balances and corrupt records that are not only yours, so instead:

Google Play permits this partial retention for legitimate reasons when it is disclosed, and it is disclosed here and in section 13 of our privacy policy.

If you want particular expenses gone as well, delete or edit them in the app before you delete your account. Other members will see those changes in the group's activity feed, as they would with any other edit.

How long it takes

Worth doing before you delete

What we will never ask you for

We will never ask you for your password, a card number, a bank detail or a copy of an identity document in order to delete an account, and you should never send any of those to us. A message from the email address on your account is enough. If Split Sage ever needs your password (only to sign in, only in the app), it is typed into the app itself, never sent to us in a message.
